Usually dog houses do not have gates. They may have a door flap which the dog can easily push and enter or leave the house. This allows your dog the freedom to go and rest in his house as and when he likes, and also to go out and play or to do his business whenever he feels like it. A dog house should not be so big so as to allow the dog to run around, and at the same time it should not be small and cramped in. Since dog houses are usually not spacious, locking your dog inside may be very inconvenient for him. Dog houses are not meant for confining your dog, but it is a place where he can comfortably lie down and relax.
Dog House
If your dog is in the habit of ripping apart your upholstery and chewing on shoes, you may have to consider training him to stay in a dog house. A wooden pet house is the best choice, but it must be just the right size. If it is too big your pet might freeze in the winter or if it is too small, there may not be enough ventilation. Put some padding on the floor so that your dog may feel cozy. The pet house can be placed on your porch or close to your outdoor seating so that your dog does not feel isolated.
An important factor to look into while buying a shelter for your pet is whether it would be used mostly outdoors or inside the house. This determines the kind of wood that should be used, the amenities required, and the size and shape of the pet house. Something that should bear the vagaries of nature has to be made of stronger and more durable wood. Cleaning the pet’s waste and food remains is an issue if its house is indoors. And finally, since there are generally no space constraints in your garden or the patio, the shelter could be bigger. While these are not the only constraints, they are some of the most debated questions while buying the pet house.
The first thing to look at is the size of the dog house. It should be large enough for your dog to stand and turn around in it, comfortably. Secondly it should have enough ventilation in the form of cut outs or louvers to keep the dog comfortable. Thirdly, if you live in an area with a lot of rainfall, it should be on a slightly raised platform to prevent water from flowing in. Also, the dog house should be weather proof. And finally, getting a dog house with a removable roof will make cleaning it much easier – no dog will willingly stay in a dirty kennel.
Who said only humans love houses? Build one for your dog and you will know. Dog houses are built to resemble houses that we humans live in. They have walls, doors, windows and a roof, and sometimes even a porch and a chimney, giving a luxurious look. A dog house may be made of wood, plastic, fiberglass or even concrete; but most owners prefer wood. Wood looks good and provides a cooling effect. Dogs have a sharp sense of smell, and they love the smell of wood. Many owners build their own dog houses out of plywood, using the basic tools. If you are building a dog house, you must see to it that there are no splinters that would injure your dog.
